Neely's Bend Church of Christ
Food, Clothing, Cleaning Supplies and Other Items Delivered This Week To Distribute To Flood Victims

For years, the Neely's Bend Church of Christ has distributed clothing and food to families in need who live and and around the Madison-Rivergate area.

Just minutes after the floods ended, and well before the Madison Chamber or even the Red Cross began flood relief services, members of the church went out into the community to continue this ministry with a vengeance just as soon as they could travel water-logged roads surrounding the church, which did not take a hit in the flood because it stands on a small hill near the Cumberland River.

On Thursday May 15th, a semi-trailer from the Church of Christ Disaster Relief delivered over $70,000 of:  pillows, blankets, bed sheets, athletic shoes, brooms, mops, cleaning supplies, gloves, caps, t-shirts, bug repellent, toiletries, electric fans, dust masks, water and food...the list goes on and on, to distribute to anyone and everyone in need.

ACTIVE YOUTH GROUP AT NEELY'S BEND CHURCH OF CHRIST
PLANS, PREPARES AND HOSTS TREASURE HUNT FOR NEIGHBORHOOD KIDS

Many folks have the notion that young people represent the church of the future, when, in fact, they are the church of TODAY.

This point was never spotlighted so effectively as on Saturday, April 3, 11:00 a.m., when the youth of Neely’s Bend church of Christ hosted a fun-filled treasure hunt on the lawn of their worship center located at 1502 Neely’s Bend Road in Madison, TN.

The festivities actually got underway the night before when Youth Leader, Eric Rucker, brought the teens together for a lock-in to prepare for the next day’s special event.  “We ‘stuffed’ over 2000 eggs with ‘treasure’, decorated the room with colorful stuffed animals and baskets, then we got down to the business of fellowship,” Rucker explained.

The evening was filled with fun activities including a shared dinner, a movie and a trek down to the Cumberland River to get the adrenalin going.  “I’m guessing we probably got to sleep around 1:30 or 2:00 a.m.,” one young lady admitted as she explained that the wake-up call for Saturday morning sounded “really early” at 8:30 a.m.

By 11:00 a.m., refreshments had been set out for the children, and the teens stood ready to welcome over 80 boys and girls, all eager to find as many eggs as they possibly could in a very small span of time. Following a short pep talk by David North, Education Director, in the church sanctuary, and the distribution of bags for holding found treasure, the church youth were dismissed to man their stations.

The children were taken outside, divided into three groups, up to three years of age, four to seven years, eight years and older, and directed to different areas on the grounds for hunting.  The shout, “One, two, three, GO!” sounded, and within about fifteen minutes, every egg had been found and counted and the kids were ready for refreshments and prizes.

At the end of the event, and as satisfied families got ready to leave Neely’s Bend church of Christ to continue their Saturday, the church teens handed out notes to everyone which read, “Thank you for coming to our Treasure Hunt and making it a success.”  Listed below this welcoming message was an announcement of upcoming events at the church, including Vacation Bible School, which is scheduled for June 28-30 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. each day.  The note promised “singing, puppet shows, skits, crafts, snacks, pony rides and much more!” during VBS, and you can be certain many of these activities will be coordinated by the teens, themselves, a common occurrence at Neely’s Bend church of Christ.

Here are some pictures of the Hunt.
